Brookfields House marks first anniversary with a celebration

Homeowners at Brookfields House in Newcastle-under-Lyme came together recently to celebrate their first birthday. 

Welcoming homeowners, reservees and guests, the afternoon was filled with music, laughter, and plenty of delicious food. Everyone enjoyed a tasty BBQ, hot and cold canapés, sweet treats, and a beautiful birthday cake baked by resident chef Linda. 

The event marked a year since the first homeowners moved into the age-exclusive community on Clayton Road. Since opening in September 2024, Brookfields House has become home to a thriving group of homeowners who enjoy stylish apartments, sociable communal spaces, and the reassurance of 24-hour on-site support. 

Among the first homeowners to move in, Ian, who used to be a chef, was especially keen to help cut the cake, ensuring there was a slice for everyone. Sheila, who moved in on her own during that first week, also cut the cake and led a charming rendition of ‘Happy Birthday to us,’ joined by the whole community.

A raffle raised £208 for Dougie Mac Hospice, a local charity chosen by homeowners and we topped this up to £450. Among the prize winners were Margaret and Ann, both reserves, and Pat, who kindly put two of her three prizes back so others could win, with eight prizes given away.

Homeowners have echoed that sentiment. Margaret, who moved into Brookfields House earlier this year, said: “Moving here has been even more than I expected – the space, the gardens, the restaurant, the activities, the friends. There’s a real sense of community. I’ve got more of a social life now than I had before, and I feel supported, safe, and happy. I keep telling people, when they ask how I’m doing, ‘I’m in awe of it all.’”

Frank, one of the first to move in, agreed: “Once I moved in, I knew I’d made the right decision. I settled immediately and have made new friends. I have no regrets. It’s been the right thing for me. I have a community which I’ve not had before.”

Brookfields House offers a selection of 75 one, two and three-bedroomed retirement apartments, alongside a restaurant, coffee lounge, activities studio, therapy room, and beautifully landscaped gardens. The dedicated on-site management team, led by General Manager Mike Keane, is available around the clock, providing peace of mind and a sense of security to all homeowners.
