Kempston retirement community raises funds for...
Homeowners, friends, families and members of the local community came together...
Our homeowners have so many interesting stories, talents and experiences to share, and Frank is no exception.
Having previously told us about his life, travels and his move to Brookfields House, Frank has now put pen to paper in a rather different way, with a poem. Frank composed the poem for Brookfields House 2nd Birthday, where the homeowners celebrated with a party and Frank’s poem was enjoyed by all. We’re delighted to share his words with you.
Brookfields House here on Clayton Road
Where apartments have become our new abode
Before coming here we gave lots of thought
Was this the environment that we sought
Opinions were gathered from friends and all
To help to ensure that we made the right call
We toasted the future with a glass of wine
Once we decided to sign on the line
After the lawyers and agents were paid
The move could take place, hope nothing’s delayed
Contracts exchanged and maybe with fear
We could try to fit in all our downsized gear
It opened quietly in twenty twenty four
Five people to start then there were more
The community grew and clubs were formed
Newsletters produced to keep us informed
Quizzes take place and reward with prizes
And on Tuesdays there are even some exercises
There is Bingo one evening if that is your yen
You will even be provided with your own pen
A book club was started in the first November
Eccles cakes provided for each member
On Friday the restaurant cooks lovely fish
Or perhaps use the menu for an alternative dish
If your choice means more exotic grub
There’s always the Thursday Food Explorers club
Cake is provided for a morning snack
To raise funds for the Dougie Mac
Talks and singers we’ve had then all
Even a magician doing tricks with a ball
Be on your own if that’s what you want
Or perhaps have a meal in our own restaurant
We have all come from a different sphere
Some without loved ones no longer here
If you have a talent there’s no excuse
Take some time out and put it to use
Tempus fugit comes to mind
Procrastination is the thief of time
No need to rush just take a break
You could even try baking a cake
That’s Brookfields House in a nut shell
So now is the time that we should tell
That we have passed yet another year
Now for a party so let’s raise a cheer.
