Meet the team Rose Astbury – Interior Design Coordinator

I live in Staffordshire, right on Cannock chase, so lots of opportunity for walking and biking. I adore spending time with my two grandsons, aged 9 and 11 and love to go dancing, mainly Northern Soul. I also love travelling, especially cruising, it’s a good taster for different countries. Although the sea air makes my clothes shrink.

What is your role at ARL?

I’m the Interior Design Coordinator and work with our Senior Interior Designer to select soft furnishings and ornaments to complement the interior design solutions in the communal areas and show apartments. We’ve just completed fitting out the socialising areas in our Newcastle-under-Lyme community and new show apartments in Kempston and Menston. Plus, I recently created a new reading library for homeowners in Menston. I’m currently focused on sourcing pictures and soft furnishings for the communal areas in our forthcoming community in Exeter which opens next year.

What’s the best bit about coming to work for Adlington?

For me it’s the variety of work and seeing how all the interior design schemes come together to create a homely environment for our homeowners. I also enjoy getting out and about a lot, travelling to different communities. And, I get to go shopping too, which I thoroughly enjoy. The teams are friendly and it’s very satisfying. I’m still fairly new to the role but making the decision to move to Adlington was the right one.

Is it true you are a Northern Soul DJ and former paraglider?

It is true! I took my paragliding license in the Peak District, in my 30s and was lucky enough to go gliding in Turkey and France. It’s so tranquil soaring around but exhilarating at the same time but I wasn’t so lucky when I landed in a 40 ft tree in France and spent eight hours retracting the glider from the branches. I do DJ, mostly Northern Soul and 70s/80s disco and I only play vinyl. I’ve done the odd party where I was forced to play some punk! I recently DJ’d at a Northern Soul event in Lanzarote so I could be classed as an international DJ. I do regular events in Stafford, it’s such fun.

Favourite film / song?

The film Argo had me on the edge of my seat! Song is hard, can I choose two? Blondie – 11:59 and Lou Rawls – You’ll never find another love like mine.

Favourite place to visit?

So far, Australia. I’m keen to try Japan and I’d love to go to Vancouver.
