Adlington Retirement Living has been appointed as a full member of The Associated Retirement Community Operators (ARCO), the main body representing the Retirement Community sector in the UK, after successfully completed a stringent Standards Programme to ensure it complies with the ARCO Consumer Code and has been approved by the ARCO Standards Committee and Board.

Michael Voges, Executive Director of ARCO said: “We are delighted to recognise Adlington as an ARCO Approved Operator. At a time of increasing demand for Retirement Communities it has never been more important to maintain high standards of transparency and accountability to residents and prospective residents. This commitment from Adlington is a clear demonstration that they share these values. We look forward to working with them to provide more good options for older people.”

Dr Ed Gladman, MD of Adlington Retirement Living, said: “In the UK there’s a general lack of awareness of modern retirement living communities and some deep-rooted preconceptions which are totally out-dated.

“We look forward to working with our fellow ARCO members to promote confidence in the retirement living sector and to raise awareness of retirement living amongst older people and stakeholders.

“We need to ensure that retired people are aware of the variety of housing options available to them and that policy makers fully understand the ways in which this type of housing provision can meet the lifestyle, health and social care needs of our ageing population.

“Our communities offer a safe, secure and happy environment with a circle of friends and a sense of belonging. In uncertain times, that’s more important than ever.

“Since our worlds all changed six months ago, many of our Homeowners have told us how much it helps to have such a strong sense of community and a friendly management team on site to provide advice, assistance and moral support.

“Our Homeowners enjoy the best of both worlds: the privacy of their own peaceful and spacious apartment; and a thriving community that they can dip into whenever they want to.”

Adlington Retirement Living provides round-the-clock support for its Homeowners from a dedicated team, 365 days a year. Whatever their needs, the 24-hour on-site staff are there to look out for their well-being, and arrange tailored care, if required – all of which enables them to maintain their quality of life.

Three Adlington Retirement Living communities have won Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards for the Best Retirement Development at the WhatHouse? Awards, the UK housebuilding’s most prestigious event. The Bridges in Macclesfield won the Silver Award in 2019, Adlington House in Otley won the Gold Award in 2017 and Adlington House in Portishead won the Bronze Award in 2015.

Dr Ed Gladman concludes: “Our values are very much aligned to those of ARCO, in our belief that older people should: be treated with respect and dignity; be valued for their contributions to society and to their communities; have what they need to be happy and healthy, including access to good support, care, and health services; be enabled and supported to live independently for as long as possible; and be empowered and free to make informed choices.

“We look forward to sharing our expertise in this sector and working together with other members to continue to shape the future of retirement living in the UK.”
