Purpose of the role:

We are a fast-growing, award-winning company that designs, builds, and operates luxury retirement communities across the UK. Part of the Gladman group of companies, with over 35 years in the development industry. You will be a proactive, self-motivated individual with ability as a key member of the team to work in close collaboration with our in-house Land, Planning, Architectural and Civil/Structural Engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities:

• Acting as a Lead Project Engineer with minimal supervision
• Collaborating with the multi-disciplined design team to steer the evolving designs
• Producing conceptual and detailed design in masonry, concrete, steel and timber
• Temporary works design
• Providing structural packages using Revit for costing and tendering along with responding to associated queries
• Responding to site queries and visiting site for structural inspections as required
• Liaising with the ‘in house’ construction team to ensure cost-effective solutions and practical construction sequence
• Undertaking Technical Design Reviews of colleague’s projects
• Complying with designer’s duties under the CDM Regulations
• Mentor and support Junior Technologists to ensure their continual professional development

Requirements:

• A registered Chartered Engineer (CEng)
• A minimum BEng(Hons) in Civil / Structural Engineering (or equivalent), accompanied by a minimum of 6 years proven post-qualification experience in Structural Engineering
• Good knowledge of structural detailing and construction techniques
• Working knowledge of relevant UK and European codes of practice
• Good experience of using AutoCAD and Revit software
• IT literacy with good working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
• A strong technical ability and commercial awareness
• Superb organisational and time management skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team whilst using own initiative to work independently
• Full UK driving licence

About the role

Reporting to the Commercial Manager, as a Quantity Surveyor you will be advising on the commercial function and the reporting of projects, including sub-contract procurement, payments, benchmarking, cashflows, valuations and CVR’s. Your specific duties will include:

• Assisting the Land team with Land Purchase Exercise, estimating and completing viability updates
• Calculating all the prime costs on developments, reporting movements in costs since preparation of LPE
• Preparing detailed cost plans for management authorisation
• Undertaking monthly cashflow forecasting
• Monitoring and explaining all cost movements with the site valuation
• Liaising with bank appointed Monitoring Surveyors
• Reviewing sub-contract valuations, payments, and variation orders
• Carrying out the full CVR process
• Forecasting final accounts

About you

• Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor
• Good knowledge of Building Regulations, NHBC, Health and Safety requirements
• Either a RICS-accredited degree / MSc or BSc in a RICS accredited field or an industry related business qualification
• Proactive and self-motivated

Although not essential, experience of residential/ new build projects is desirable.
