Our New Year’s Resolution for 2020: worry less

According to the latest report from the Office for National Statistics, 70 is the new 65. Our life expectancy has vastly increased over the years, thanks to improvements in healthcare and living conditions and we’re now more likely to be fit and healthy into our mid 80s than ever before.

Active retirement

Surely that should be a great cause for celebration, so why do so many of us spend our time worrying about the future?

I’ve always been a worrier but as I get older there are definitely some new worries playing on my mind and I’m sure I’m not alone. I worry about losing my independence, about my future health, not being able to live at home, losing loved ones, not being able to drive, loneliness, relying on strangers to care for me and the thought of falling over or getting hurt.

Well for 2020, I’ve decided to tackle some of my worries head on. As Winston Churchill once said: “Let our advance worrying become advance thinking and planning.”

Whilst I’m sure the great man was not thinking about later life when he said that, I’m taking his words as my inspiration and finding out more about the practical ways that moving to a retirement living community could alleviate most of them and give me peace of mind for the years ahead.

An award-winning new way to retire

Adlington Retirement Living is the creator of purpose-built retirement communities in Southport, Cheadle, Macclesfield, Ramsbottom and Romiley.

The family owned and run business has won the Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards for Best Retirement Development at the WhatHouse? Awards, the UK housebuilding’s most prestigious event.

The judges praised Adlington’s unique approach to independent living, and the fact that its homeowners don’t have to compromise on their lifestyle, their social life or their independence.

Care & support

Adlington Homeowners have access to round-the-clock support from a dedicated team, 365 days a year. Whatever your needs, the 24-hour on-site staff are there to look out for your wellbeing, and arrange tailored care, if required – all of which enables you to maintain your quality of life. It’s completely flexible, so should you find that your requirements change in the future, the discreet care team will be able to accommodate and support you.

Alexandra Johnson, Sales and Marketing Director for Adlington Retirement Living, explains: “We’ve noticed more of our Homeowners are choosing to move to retirement communities whilst they’re fit and healthy, to future-proof their retirement. We offer a personal approach to care to ensure that you receive just the right amount to maintain your independence, allowing you to enjoy your retirement to the full.”

Caring team

All apartments are fitted with a 24-hour emergency call system linked directly to the on-site team.

“Even though many of our Homeowners do not need specialist care, the Adlington team is always there in the background giving them and their families comfort that in the event of an unexpected fall help is immediately to hand.”

The sophisticated emergency call system not only covers each private apartment but the entire building and gardens, for added peace of mind.

“A significant number of retired doctors have chosen an Adlington apartment for their own future, illustrating the high regard in which our concept is held by health professionals. In fact, at one of our recent developments 13 retired doctors bought an apartment.”

Ten-year guarantee and two-year warranty

We constantly invest in our buildings and interior design to deliver high quality homes and create welcoming retirement communities. The spacious developments are built to the highest standards and are superbly appointed with modern fabrics, quality fixtures and fittings and appliances that are hand-picked.

The apartments have been designed with later life in mind with every detail, including specially designed wet rooms, considered to make everyday life safer, simpler and more comfortable for homeowners.

Every Adlington Retirement Living home is protected by a 10-year NHBC warranty and comes with a two-year warranty period.

Easy to heat, easy to maintain

All of our developments are packed with energy-efficient features to help reduce Homeowners’ bills, such as full thermal insulation, double-glazing and cost-effective heating.

The monthly service and well-being charge covers 24-hour staffing, restaurant facilities, all Homeowner communal area cleaning, buildings insurance and garden maintenance.

Although a Homeowner is usually responsible for Council tax, their apartment electricity, contents insurance, telephone, broadband and a TV licence for their apartment, in most cases household expenditure reduces when they move to an Adlington Retirement Living property.

Community / Adlington Life

These new, high-end, developments offer Homeowners the privacy of their own peaceful and spacious apartment, with the option of spending time in the gardens (which are maintained by an expert team of gardeners), relaxing in the hair salon, therapy room or lounge and inviting friends over to enjoy the table service restaurant.

Alexandra Johnson explains: “We aim to provide a community spirit, whilst promoting independence and individual respect. Moving into an Adlington Retirement Living apartment is far more than just moving into a new home. It’s a chance to become part of a thriving community of like-minded people, with a shared outlook. Our communities provide a safe, secure and happy environment with a circle of friends and a sense of belonging.”
