Friendship and fresh air on your doorstep

Each year, with the first blooms of Spring our spirits lift and we start to look forward to longer days, warmer weather and the simple pleasure of enjoying more time outdoors.

With Adlington Retirement Living, you can enjoy idyllic locations, pretty, waterside settings and stunning countryside views, all from the safety and comfort of your own private patio or balcony.

Our beautiful, landscaped gardens are maintained by an expert team of gardeners which means you can do as much or as little gardening as you want to, and still enjoy the peace and serenity of a quiet corner, afternoon drinks in the summer house or finding a relaxing space to watch the world go by.

“It’s nice to have the gardens and the outdoor space here where I can go for some fresh air and exercise without worrying about bumping into people. Moving to the Sailings has been very good for me. I’m sitting here now, and I’ve got my flower pots outside on my patio and I’m right opposite the summer house. It’s a lovely spot. I’m very happy.” Edna, The Sailings in Southport

Discovering a community with a zest for life

There’s a thriving community offering new friendships, social occasions and safe activities on your doorstep that you can dip into whenever the mood takes you.

Retirement companions

“I’m looking forward to going to the weekly Physiofit exercise class again when the restrictions lift and going out for lunch as a group now and then. I’ve made some really good friends here.” Joyce, The Chimes in Cheadle

“During the first UK lockdown, we used to go and sit in the sun, because the first three months we had beautiful weather. The sun shone every day so we’d see each other walking around and sitting in the gardens. We got to know each other very well and we’ve stayed very good friends.” John and Marcia, The Cottons in Ramsbottom

And when you want to spend some quiet time in your own company, you have a beautiful, self-contained apartment that you can retreat to.

“My apartment’s gorgeous. I have a one bedroom apartment and it’s lovely. The best thing I did was move. I love it here.” Audrey, The Folds in Romiley

“You can socialise when you want to and you can also be on your own when you want to, which is great. Just before lockdown, we were having get togethers in the Homeowner’s Lounge. We had a ‘knit and natter’ group which some of the ladies from the WI joined us for, and we’d have afternoon tea and a good chat whilst we were knitting. During the lockdown, I was shielded so I couldn’t go to the shops or anything, but I’ve been having meals delivered to my apartment from the restaurant. They’ve done it very well.” Edna, The Sailings in Southport

Alexandra Johnson, Sales and Marketing Director for Adlington Retirement Living, said: “Our on-site teams always look for ways to support our Homeowners’ happiness and well-being and they’ve really gone the extra mile over the past 12 months. Although we have had to temporarily close our elegant restaurants during each lockdown, our catering teams have managed to offer the same high standard of freshly-prepared, delicious lunchtime meals and deliver them directly to our Homeowners’ front doors, always maintaining social distancing and sanitising trays between deliveries. Our team members have been going shopping and collecting prescriptions for our Homeowners and we have created ‘pop-up shops’ at each development to provide a safe and easy way to pick up everyday essentials.”

Kindness and well-being

Feeling part of a strong community and having a friendly management team on hand to provide help whenever you may need it makes a world of difference to our Homeowners’ sense of well-being.

Family retirement living

“It’s much better here than it would have been in our previous home in lockdown.” John and Marcia, The Cottons in Ramsbottom.

“I’m really happy that I moved. It really is lovely here. I’ve got a balcony and I’ve got plants out on it. Everybody here is there for you. All the managers and all the staff, they are wonderful. I feel very fortunate to be here.” Alice, The Chimes in Cheadle

Our retirement communities offer a huge amount of reassurance and practical assistance from the on-site team, who provide round the clock support, 365 days a year. A sophisticated emergency call system, that links directly to the on-site team, is fitted in every private apartment and also covers the entire building and gardens to give Homeowners and their families peace of mind.

“I’ve got the button to press if there’s a problem, which is very good. When you’re on your own, it’s nice to know that there’s somebody at hand if you’ve got a problem. The team here reassure me, and I think that really helps.” Rona, The Sailings in Southport

One aspect of Adlington life that appeals to many of our Homeowners is the fact that optional, additional tailored care is available as and when it is needed, for as long as it’s needed. So, if you have an accident we can arrange additional support for a short time or if you need more long-term support, that’s available too.

Alexandra Johnson said: “Our approach to care is personal and tailored to each individual, providing just the right amount to maintain your independance and allowing you to enjoy your retirement to the full. It’s completely flexible, so should you find that your requirements change in the future, the discreet care team will be able to accommodate and support you.”

Pets are welcome too

We know that animals are often part of the family, so we’re always happy to welcome well-behaved pets to our retirement communities.

The companionship pets provide is invaluable and can have a really positive impact on our Homeowners’ lives.

“Ah, she’s gorgeous. I love her to pieces. Having the dog, it helps a little bit. It gives you a bit of comfort, you know.” Alice and her dog Luna, The Chimes
